Una crida a la simbiosi cultural. Meditacions des d’U
With the translation into Valencian of the essay Una crida a la simbiosi cultural by Jüri Talvet, I closed a long-standing debt, in a book that I first translated into Spanish and then, due to editorial policy, had to retranslate into Valencian. Institutional books rarely reach the shelves of the great book centers or the pages of the cultural supplements of the newspapers, and it is a pity, because Jüri Talvet, Estonian poet and essayist, a very fine pen and of rapturous strength, should be much better known in the country that he could very well consider his second homeland, not because he has lived long periods of time there, but because his work towards the Spanish language, and the dissemination of our literature in Estonia, is commendable. I have always thought that Jüri responds to the figure of the “European writer” that Mircea Eliade so eagerly sought. In a minority language and from the periphery of Europe (as we are), his reflection reaches the universal, and is a must-read. The book includes a short text by the American poet and essayist Harvey L. Hix, professor at the University of Wyoming, whose poetry I truly appreciate, and I have even translated some very complex poems.
