Cuentos de adolescencia
This book is the translation of a possible translation, although there is nothing clear about it. One of the first mentors of Vicente Blasco Ibáñez (1867-1928) was Constantí Llombart (1848-1893), and thanks to his help, the great genius of our literature wrote three short stories in Valencian, and published them. It is not known exactly to what extent the work of Constantí Llombart was a pure and hard translation, or he only corrected the text (we are also ignorant of the degree to which he corrected it). Be that as it may, there is no doubt that in Blasco’s early days as a writer, he was close to the spirit of the Renaixença and, therefore, to a certain protonationalism. Alfons Cucó (1941-2002) produced an edition in 1967, on which I based my Spanish version. The stories in question are “La Torre de la Boatella”, “Fátimah” and “El último esfuerzo”.
